INTRODUCTION

On 20 April 2002, the Post Office of Moldova (Poșta Moldovei) issued a series of postage stamps with the title Art - Paintings. The issue comprises four stamps, with associated cancellation (postmark) and first day cover (FDC). The designer was Oleg Cojocaru. The printing was performed by Bundesdruckerei, Germany.

Mihai Grecu (November 22, 1916, Faraonivka - 1998, Chişinău) was a painter from Moldova. According to Lonely Planet, “The biggest name in Moldovan painting is Mihai Grecu (1916-98), who co-founded the National School of Painting and was also a poet and free love advocate.
